Overview Of Pharmaceutical Intermediates
Nov 30, 2018

China needs to meet more than 2000 kinds of raw materials and intermediates with chemical industry each year, the demand of more than 2.5 million tons. After more than more than 30 years of development, China's pharmaceutical production needs of chemical raw materials and intermediates can basically support, only a small part of the need to import. And because China's resources are relatively rich, raw material prices are low, there are many intermediates to achieve a large number of exports.

So, what are the development opportunities facing the field of pharmaceutical intermediates in China?

Increased demand After nearly 50 years of development, beta-caprolactam antibiotics in China have formed a complete production system.

Almost all beta-caprolactam antibiotics in the 2012 (with the exception of those in the patent period) were produced in our country, and the cost was low, penicillin production was in the world's highest, large exports were supplied to the international market, and cephalosporins were largely self-sufficient and were able to secure a portion of the export.

2012, with beta-caprolactam antibiotics supporting the intermediates of all of our country can produce their own, in addition to semi-synthetic antibiotics of the parent nuclear 7-aca and 7-ADCA need to be partially imported, all side chain intermediates can be produced, and a large number of exports. Taking the main supporting intermediates of beta-caprolactam antibiotics as an example, the existing phenylacetic acid suppliers in China are nearly 30, with a total annual production capacity of about 20,000 tons. However, most enterprises are small, the largest annual output of 2000 tons, the other majority of the annual output of hundreds of tons.

In 2003, the total domestic demand for phenylacetic acid was about 14,000 tons, the consumption structure was: penicillin G accounted for 85%, other medicine accounted for 4%, spices accounted for 7%, pesticides and other fields accounted for 4%. With the development of domestic spices, pharmaceuticals, pesticides and other industries, the demand for phenylacetic acid will increase further. It is expected that by 2005, China's pharmaceutical industry will consume about 14,000 tons of phenylacetic acid, pesticide industry will consume 500 tons, spice industry about 2000 tons of consumption. Combined with consumption in other areas, the total domestic demand for phenylacetic acid is expected to reach 18,000 tonnes in 2005.
